Parma-Reggina, a nice win.

Corradi, il capitano

Sorry I couldn’t get a preview in, I promise that won’t happen again. Parma collect another home win against a relegation struggler. It was a nice 3-0 win, with Parma dominating, many players shining (Cigarini, Gasbarroni, Corradi just to name a few), and the Lord of Prosciutto was happy. We also got to see a fun goal celebration. More after the jump.

Reggina came into the game on a week’s rest, since they didn’t have to play last week because of Milan’s adventures in Japan. Just like Malesani came back to the Tardini two weeks ago, this time it was a return for Renzo Ulivieri, who managed the Gialloblu’ in 2002 (that rhymes!).

Di Carlo went with the 4-2-3-1 again, with Bucci in net, Coly, Falcone, Paci, and Zenoni on the left, Cigarini and Morrone in the center, and Pisanu, Gasbarroni, and Reginaldo in support of Capitano Corradi.

The game was basically all Parma from start to finish. Reggina are terrible this year (I’m sorry to any Reggina fans but it’s true, they will go to Serie B along with Cagliari and Siena), and they are even more terrible in away games. Parma went ahead in the 26th minute. Gasbarroni laid the ball off for Reginaldo who put in a nice cross for Corradi who scored on a nice header (his trademark). After scoring Corradi ran to the bench and he was handed a pair of Willy Wonka-like red sunglasses and just stared down the crowd. Before the half Morrone smashed a shot against the post.

After the half Parma went 2-0 up. Reginaldo had the assist again, as he rolled the ball along the goalmouth and Andrea Pisanu slid in and tapped it into the net.

In the 66th minute Paci closed the game, heading home a ball sent in from Gasbarroni’s free kick. He is now rivaling Corradi for the title of “Master of the Headers”.

Amoruso hit the bar near the end for Reggina, but Parma picked up another valuable three points.

Parma are jumping up the table, and are now on 18 points (tied with Milan!) and 4 above the relegation strugglers. If we can get some results away from home we can achieve safety sooner rather than later. Next up is Genoa away before the winter break, and with the recent problems the Rossoblu’ are going through we may have a chance to steal some points at the Marassi.

Highlights

RATINGS

Bucci 6.5 – Excellent at defending his goal.

Falcone 6 – Average performance for the defender.

Couto 6 – Enters for Falcone and provides experience at the back.

Paci 7 – Excellent goal from the central defender.

Coly 6.5 – Lots of hard work from the Senegalese right back. Runs like a gazzelle and fights like a gladiator, even saves a goal towards the end.

Cigarini 6.5 – Good performance, but could’ve done better with his shooting.

Dessena s.v. – only 4 minutes, no rating.

Zenoni 6.5 – Some movement in attack and puts in some good crosses, but it’s at the back where he shines, blocking all attacking movements that come his way like a rock.

Gasbarroni 8 – Best one of the field and all of Parma’s play goes through him. Substituted towards the end for a merited standing ovation. Really excellent.

Morrone 7 – Great performance, a complete midfielder that fights like a lion and wins so many balls in midfield.

Corradi 7 – Scores a goal in the 26th minute and does well for the rest of the game.

Pisanu 6.5 – Not the prettiest goal but gave but played his heart out. Never stops running.

Matteini 6 – Substitutes Reginaldo and does well.

Reginaldo 6.5 – Great performance when it comes to assists but he still can’t seem to score.

Post Match Comments (summarized by me)

Di Carlo
: Good performance, I’m happy, we’ll try to beat Genoa just before we take a much needed break.

Ghirardi: I liked the way Parma played, I liked the fact that we won, I like Di Carlo, I like these fans, I like Prosciutto (OK, I love Prosciutto), I like Cigarini and he’s going nowhere.

Cigarini

Seems like the rumors never stop about how everyone is after the next Andrea Pirlo. Ghirardi once again said today “He’s not for sale!!!” (in January; in June is another story…)

I’ll get the next installment of “Random Parma Videos” in sometime this week and maybe I’ll even start a new thing- “Parma Legends”

God, don’t let those people sell players, that can bring the glory back to Parma. Isn’t there another way to finance the team – except selling the best players?

Anyway, I’m very happy about Parma’s win and let’s hope we can get a point or even three in Genoa.
