Parma-Juve, result overshadowed by other events
By: Francesco | November 11th, 2007Parma went up 2-0 on Juventus, only to allow the Old Lady to come back and get a draw. Once again Parma fails to defend a lead. It was a good result, however it was overshadowed by the death of a Lazio fan. More after the jump.
By now everyone knows about the incident in Arezzo where an innocent Lazio fan was shot by a police officer and killed. As a result all games started 15 minutes late and some games (Atalanta-Milan, Roma-Cagliari) were postponed. Check Martha’s Italy blog for detailed news of the incident.
The Parma fans put out a banner that said “Death is equal for everyone”, meaning that every game should’ve been postponed today.
Di Carlo put out another different starting XI. Luca Bucci returned between the posts, the defense stayed the same, the midfield consisted of Morrone, Cigarini, and Pisanu, and Juventus youth product Andrea Gasbarroni and Reginaldo supported Bernardo Corradi up top. Even though he scored an impressive goal last week, Davide Matteini was relegated to the bench.
The first half was all Parma, and Juventus didn’t look like themselves. Parma dominated but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. They were handed the chance to do that in the 43rd minute after Cristiano Zanetti fouled Reginaldo, who was putting the moves on Domenico Criscito. The ref (Gava) pointed to the spot and Gasbarroni stepped up and powered a drive into the upper left corner. No chance for Buffon, who stinks at saving penalties anyway.
After halftime Ranieri tried to go for a new look, subbing off Alex Del Piero for Vincenzo Iaquinta. Parma still pushed forward however, as on 57 minutes the impressive Gasbarroni sent in a cross from the right and Andrea Pisanu controlled it nicely past Grygera and volleyed it past Buffon for the Gialloblu’s second goal of the match.
Juventus gained life and 15 minutes from time a Tiago free kick was sent in and Nicola Legrottaglie jumped up and headed home to get one back for the Bianconeri.
Domenico Morfeo was introduced into the match, but 30 seconds later Chiellini fouled him, he got mad and confronted him. There was grabbing and pushing and Morfeo and Chiellini were both sent off.
Parma threw away the game in the 82nd minute, when Hasan Salihamidzic ran down the right wing and crossed in for Vincenzo Iaquinta, who although being held back got a foot on it and put it past Bucci.
In stoppages Coly was sent off for a foul from behind on Cristiano Zanetti, but it looked a little harsh.
Also in stoppages Iaquinta seemed to score a valid goal (I have to be honest), but was adjudged to have pushed Castellini.
Parma threw away another game and it has to be seen how much longer King of Prosciutto Tommaso Ghirardi tolerates this. Di Carlo could be on his way very soon.

[…] There’s definitely something wrong in Italy , and I don’t think that football and Ultràs are the only causes for this violence. The Italian police, thus the State, killed (I’m not going to say assassinated) one of its citizens on Sunday because of « a tragic error. » These kinds of things aren’t supposed to happen, and shouldn’t in a democracy. The FIGC reacted differently in the case of Raciti’s death and Sandri’s death. I do not want to approve or condemn the actions of the people in Italy on Sunday, but WTF? did you think was going to happen? Unfortunately, the message sent out in Italy on Sunday is that the death of a fan/citizen is less important than the death of Policeman. As the Parma fans have claimed before, La Morte è uguale per tutti. […]
