Parma’s Weekend- Good and Bad

By: Francesco | February 19th, 2008

Kalac makes a save.

Parma drew Milan 0-0 at home, but this good and bad. More after the jump.

The Good- We put in a good performance against Milan. (Highlights) The squad played well, they defended well, the midfield held their own, and the attack did what they could.

The Bad- Di Carlo starting Reginaldo from the start instead of Gasbarroni. Reginaldo is a talented player, no doubt, but he is way too selfish, and at times he never passes the ball. There is a moment I remember when Dessena was wide open on the wing and had loads of space, yet Reginaldo decided to take a shot from 30 yards out that sailed over the goal. When Gasbarroni came on he was much more lively and dangerous.

The Good-
Daniele Dessena. The young starlet has always been left on the bench by Di Carlo because of the excellent play of Cigarini and Morrone, however against the Rossoneri he decided to give young Daniele a start on the right side of midfield. Dessena put in a masterful performance, running for 90 minutes, tackling, passing, shooting, crossing, basically doing everything. He was definitely the best midfielder on the pitch, and when this kid wants to play you can see all the potential he has to become a great complete midfielder. He looked like Marco Tardelli out there. Defenitely merits more playing time from Mr. Baldy (Di Carlo).

The Bad- Our lack of a goalscorer. Corradi was suspended, but his scoring rate isn’t good at all. Lucarelli was playing on an injured leg and I excuse him for the performance. Budan came in and had one chance, but he shot it at Kalac. Maybe an in-form Budan would’ve buried that. Let’s hope our strikers wake up. We need goals.

The Good- Luca Bucci. How great is this 38 year old keeper? The guy has excellent reflexes and made some great saves to deny the Rossoneri a goal and to make Galliani look like this:

Galliani

The Bad-
Di Carlo still refusing to play Morfeo. Let the Genio get on the pitch! He’s a player that can change any game at any time!

The Good- Luca Cigarini. At times he really looked like Pirlo on the ball. He did a beautiful sombrero over Emerson and Emerson fouled him because he was too embarrassed. Let’s just hope he continues developing and becomes a really good player and lives up to his “New Pirlo” name. Because just as easily he could become the “New Omar Milanetto“. But that probably won’t happen, this kid is really talented.

The Bad- Our League Position. We have to start waking up, it’s getting bad. Now we are occupying the 3rd relegation spot on 21 points. Although part of the blame goes to Napoli letting Empoli win (Damn you Edy Reja testing out your new 4-3-3 midseason! and Damn Sebastian Giovinco for being so good!) and Torino drawing with Siena (come on Siena, you beat Roma 3-0 but you can’t beat Torino? They don’t even have a striker!). But part of the blame falls on us. We need to start getting results fast. A good time to start would be this weekend, away to Torino.

So that’s the wrap up. I’ll get a Random Parma Video up this week as well.

Parma must get better results than the draws .And yeah, Di Carlo should start Morfeo . He’s really good.
