Last Chance for Di Carlo vs. Udinese
By: Francesco | February 26th, 2008By now it’s confirmed. Parma officials have hinted at it in the press, but tomorrow’s game against Udinese at the Stadio Tardini is coach Domenico Di Carlo’s last chance. If he fails tomorrow, the Lord of Prosciutto will ask to see him in his office after the game and he will get a “Thank you for you services, but we have to go in another direction” speech.
The candidates mentioned to be taking over are:
Alberto Zaccheroni- The 3-4-3 enthusiast who coached Milan to a Scudetto in 1998-99 but has failed everywhere else he has been. He almost took Torino to Serie B last year. Please don’t take us there.
Gigi Simoni- Mostly known for winning the UEFA Cup with Inter back in the 90’s and finishing second to Juventus. (This all happened when Ronaldo was really good). He fell off the radar after that and I don’t see him being chosen.
Carlo Mazzone- The famous Carletto Mazzone, the most experienced Italian manager, who is not afraid to say whatever he wants to the press, and not afraid to do anything on the pitch. He was Roberto Baggio’s favorite manager, but I think as of now he’s starting his retirement and I can’t see him taking a risky job like this one mid-season.
Walter Zenga- The famous Italian goalkeeper from the 1990s where he was Italy’s goalkeeper at World Cup 1990 and Inter’s starting keeper. Then he ended his career in MLS with the New England Revolution. Since then he has been a manager, however the only Italian side he has managed is amateur team Brera, and the rest of his jobs have been abroad. I don’t know if Parma would put the Salvezza battle in the hands of someone who does not have Serie A experience (Oh wait, they did that with Di Carlo!)
Didier Deschamps- The World Cup winning French midfielder has also been linked with the job, and he has been out of work since leading Juventus to the Serie B title. I don’t know if he would accept the job.
Gianni De Biasi- The man that saved Torino last season and the current coach of struggling Levante in Spain. I think he would be a good choice since he has saved a team before, however he would have to rescind his contract with Levante first.
Gianluca Vialli- The former Juventus and Sampdoria striker and Chelsea manager is always linked with every open manager job in Italy, but he never takes them. Why? Because the media just throws his name in there, Vialli enjoys being an analyst for SKY Italia and doesn’t want to get back to the managerial world just yet.
Anyway, this all depends on what the Gialloblu’ do vs. Udinese tomorrow. So we’ll see, I’m hopin the Gialloblu’ can come back and put in a great performance and win, but another part of me wants to see Di Carlo leave.
