BREAKING NEWS! LUCARELLI SIGNS 3 YEAR DEAL WITH PARMA!

By: Francesco | January 15th, 2008

Lucarelli presents his number 9 shirt

While everyone in the peninsula predicted a loan deal, Parma surprised everyone and went ahead and signed striker Cristiano Lucarelli permanently on a 3 year contract.

Lucarelli was presented at around 7 PM Italian time to the press with Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi (the Lord of Prosciutto).

Lucarelli takes on the number 9 shirt that belonged to young striker Daniele Paponi, who was sent on loan to Cesena a few days ago. (his famous 99 is worn by backup keeper Pavarini).

At the press conference, Lucarelli said he received many offers, but the Parma offer attracted him the most, as Ghirardi convinced him that he had a serious project in place to get Parma back to being a big side and he loves the fans that pack the Tardini every other week. He hasn’t played a professional game since early December but since then he has been training with an amateur team in Livorno, Armando Picchi. He said he wants to do good so he can get back on the national team.

An interesting note is that Parma is the team that Lucarelli has scored the most on in his career (12 goals). Let’s hope he can score for the Gialloblu’ now!

Ghirardi hinted that there could be some more moves during the window, and right now the two closest names seem to be Palermo winger Franco Brienza and AlbinoLeffe defender Riccardo Colombo.

This really is a great buy, and if Lucarelli can get back in form and start knocking in some goals Parma can start thinking about leaving the relegation zone and getting to the higher places in the table. The Parma roster is good, but a bomber is just what this team was missing, and that’s what it needs to get better.

Here’s a preview of what to expect from Lucarelli:

And there goes my fantasy scenario to get Bobo back into the national team — damn you, Parma, for giving the big man a place to play! (I kid. Mostly.)
