New Parma coach Roberto Donadoni was elated with the home victory over Siena, a result which saw the Ducali jump to 12th and gain seven points clear of the relegation zone.
“I changed from a back four to a three and it worked, although this isn’t something that is permanent. Previous Coach Franco Colomba left me with a good squad, but if we want to grow we must maintain this good attitude.”

It’s stipulated that Donadoni will revert to a four man defense at Bologna, with Sebastian Giovinco and Jonathan Biabiany playing behind advanced forward Sergio Floccari as they search for only their second away win of the season.

Player to watch: Nicolo Pavarini (Parma) – Not an obvious choice for one to watch, but he proved a more than able deputy goalkeeper for first-choice Antonio Mirante in victory over Siena last weekend. He stepped up to make some crucial saves to prevent a nervy ending at the Ennio Tardini, and the Brescia native will be looking to stake a claim for a regular first-team spot against Bologna this weekend.

Last match: Bologna 0-0 Parma

Interesting statistic: Bologna have the worst disciplinary record in Serie A, with 54 yellow cards and two reds.

I do sincerely apologize for the hiatus as it has been a very different summer for me. The crucial chance to start again from a shocking first game of the season exists for the Gialloblu in the form of Chievo.

The 56-year-old Franco Colomba assured that training will focus on what was stated as the team’s best feature of stealing possession and hitting on the counter-attack. Scorng and defensive organisation were the named specific places to improve.

STRENGTH: A full squad.

WEAKNESS: Neutralizing Sergio Pellissier who once again seems to be upon another productive season goal-wise.

*Chievo have demonstrated better form away than at home.Let’s hope luck is also on our side.

*Marques and Calvo are still out injured. If all goes well with this current roster, we will have a decent team to face Napoli in next week Sunday night’s game.

Only four points above the relegation zone, Parma will face Roma with Vincenzo Montella at the
helm.

At the time of writing this, the team is at a training camp in Fiuggi in Lazio, this is
a last ditch effort for Pasquale Marino to save his job. Let’s hope that they earn at least a
draw against a now motivated but defensive Roma (based on the Wednesday Bologna game) who haven’t been beaten in five years. Even worse, in 35 matches only 5 won, 8 drawn and I will not state the number lost. Do the math.

THREAT: The diminutive Chilean playmaker Pizarro is back for Roma. His ability to spray passes
and crosses anywhere is going to keep the defense busy.

STRENGTH: Doni is the goalkeeper as Montella deems him the better choice.

A draw is a lot to ask for, especially with players still missing such as Calvo and Marques.

Motivation

It is clear that Parma needs more focus, grit and cohesivesness as a team. While this is not the time to even think of attaining a European spot, it is indeed the time to reorganize,
become more clinical and most importantly avoid relegation.

Mirante puts in the most effort on the pitch and is the only reason the score against us in
losses is never as bad as it seems.
The defense needs to be more aware of attacking setups like
what occured for the first goal.Overall, the defense struggles against opposition in and
around the penalty box. Evident especially as seven penalties were conceded in the most recent
games. Very little support for an often lone striker is what you may notice in addition to the
fact that passing isn’t done at a pace especially when counter-attacking.

The video should be viewed on mute.

The sales of Alberto Paloschi and Luca Antonelli have seriously inhibited the squad as well as
the long-term injured Danielle Galloppa. The central midfield playmaker whose outstanding
reading of the game, excellent vision and ability to deliver incisive passes is sorely missed.

Cesena are in a relegation dogfight and a fierce game awaits this Sunday. Whichever team loses
this match will see a change in management. I expect this to be ugly.

Last meeting:

the team has been rather unexpected to say the least. We do need more firepower.

often once the team sees European competition. Random thoughts:

*Not only is Catania without an away win this season, but they had never conquered the
Tardini. In addition, this is not the ideal managerial start for El Cholo. Funny though but
Parma have never beaten Catania in the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

*I am never one to rely much on statistics sports-wise, but the upcoming Coppa Italia game is
pretty much leaning on Palermo going through to the semis. Take a look at the last four
meetings between the two.

*The upcoming game against Genoa ought to be interesting for Il Grifone haven’t won any of
their last 5 games while we’ll be attempting to make it two wins in a row.

*Acclaim for Antonio Candreva and Sebastian Giovinco due to their two recent stellar games
against Juventus and Catania.

These two sides are almost identical in many ways, they have both brought huge re-inforcments into their panel this summer. With these adjustments comes big expectations from each side and a hope of european qualification from this season and a challenge for the Coppa Italia. Both sides winning their first game easily but falling to shambles with shock defeats at the weekend. Genoa more so as they lost 1.3 to Chievo on their home turf. Parma on the other hand who played Catania had two very light penalty kicks given against them and one might be forgiven by saying we were robbed especially as the second was a blatant dive. Having said that Parma still failed to convert their chances, with a lot of dangerous balls flying into the box and none of them converted. Giovinco was again simply magical and had one of the best chances in front of goal. He made free kick taking far look too easy, first hitting the post and then converting to pull back a goal. it finished Parma 1.2 Catania.
This match against Genoa will is going to be a tough test for the Ducali so fingers crossed we can stay focused after such a shock defeat. Genoa coach Gasperini’s job is on the line already at this early stage of the season and will be out to impress following his terrible weekend. His players also will be fired up to the last following their dismal defeat. I do feel we were completely robbed last weekend and we have the advantage at home .We are once again without Paloschi but not for too long more. Lucarelli is also missing so we should see the arrival of Dellafiore in defense. Galloppa is again out and wont be fit until the new year.

Fingers crossed i predict a 2.1 victory

Form guide: Parma (- – – W L) Genoa (- – – W L)

Last season: Parma 2-3 Genoa

Stat fact: Gasperini has defeated Pasquale Marino-coached sides five times.

Parma (probable): Mirante; Zaccardo, Paci, Dellafiore, Antonelli; Valiani, Morrone, Gobbi; Giovinco, Bojinov, Marques

Genoa (probable): Eduardo; Ranocchia, Dainelli, Moretti; Rafinha, Rossi, Veloso, Criscito; Palacio, Destro, Sculli

Parma looked like they could have netted five or six against Brescia last week, a strike force to be reckoned with it seemed. Giovinco was the conductor and sent out a powerfull message to Juve who had over looked him. Lets hope they don’t come looking for him in january. This week however is probably a better test for the Ducali who could be without Palaschi once again through an injury picked up while on international duty. This will probably mean we will get to see what Hernan Crespo has left in the tank. He claimed that he spent much of his time last season helping out the midfield. He feels that with the reinforcements he can push forward and score more goals. This week I am excited that maybe we will see the introduction of Antonio Candreva in midfield who could be of use to Prandelli if he plays his cards right. Like Italy Parma have changed their game to a more ambitious, exciting and attacking style of play, perhaps in time Parma could also adopt Prandelli’s ingenious rotary system in midfield. This system means the three man midfield simply switch rolls several times throughout the game opening various avenues for much more creativity. Parma have being using both 343 and 433 line-ups in training and can easily switch between the two, the 3 man offense proved too much for Brescia but how will it pan out against Catania .Having lost their opening game against Chievo 2.1 they will be hoping on scooping up their first three points of the season. Catania are not a side to be underestimated and at these early stages of the season they will have plenty to throw at us. I firmly believe tho that this Parma side are a force to be reckoned with and are going to light up Serie A this year so i predict a 2.1 win for us.

Here is a possible line up using a 433 system

                                                                             Mirante

                                                Zaccarrdo, Paletta, Lucarelli (Paci??), Antonelli,

                                                       Candreva (Gobbi??), Morrone, Valiani

                                                      Crespo (Marqués??), Giovinco, Bojinov

      Forza gialloblu!!!

We have tightened up our defense with the introduction of Gabriel Paletta and in attack we have Sebastian Giovinco and José Fernando Marqués who are going to bring a new attacking minded style of play to the Ducali. Im excited to see how it all pans out. We are really going to miss Biabiany, Jiminez and Mariga, especially in the absence of Galloppa, sometimes i wonder in his absence should we make just 1 more transfer, or should we have kept hold of Paolo Castellini who as a defender can also adapt to strenghtening the midfield. No doubt Morino has had his work cut out in pre-season preparation but i am a strong believer in Parmas ability this season and think we can do well. Morino seems to be using a 433 and 343 system which is the formation we used in the golden days of Zola and Veron. In my opinion i believe starting the Brescia game with 4 at the back would be wise. Players Like Zaccardo can make it very easy for the manager to switch between these formations without making too many changes Here is a probable line up, with Zaccardo possibly Moving forward later on.

                             Zaccardo – Paletta – Lucarelli – Antonelli
Valiani- Dzemaili-Gobbi
Bojinov – Giovinco-Paloschi
